Attacking Performance: The Lifespan of the Athlete
Every athlete experiences doubt at some point.
🥹 Doubt about whether they are playing as well as they could be playing or
🏋️♀️ Whether they are progressing as fast as they feel they should be or
⛹️ Whether they are going to be good enough to achieve their goals and objectives.
The Good News – if you are or have experienced doubt you are not alone.
Even Better News – you can make doubt work to your advantage if you frame it up correctly. Doubt is a natural part of the athlete and player development process and if you can learn to embrace it, it can be a very helpful tool.
Doubt can be an indicator that it might be time to take a step back and evaluate where you are at, what you have been doing and how you have been planning in relation to your goals and objectives.
In the process of athlete and player development we spend the majority of an athlete’s lifespan preparing for a few years of elite – top performance. Years and years building the foundation that will eventually support performance outcomes at the highest levels of performance.
Unfortunately, most athletes, coaches, parents underestimate the demands at the highest levels of sport. And in turn, do not fully appreciate the importance of the building phases of development that must happen to support elite performance.
